Pulling from the worlds of Leonard Cohen, Morrissey, and Thom Yorke, I designed “8AM” to present itself as a vague poem about feelings of insecurity and powerlessness before resolving itself with the simplest hook I could imagine. Gracie’s piano playing was genius, going from the rough idea I had to something that feels enveloping.
