about

Written in a spell of COVID induced boredom/delirium, “Downtown Living” is based on films just as much as any music, specifically Michael Mann’s Thief and the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense. Staying in an eerily empty apartment building hanging over downtown party bars, I was driven mad by the noise and the debauchery while feeling like a caged animal. This is an attempt to live in the mindset of any downtown zone, where things can go wrong so fast.

lyrics

DOWNTOWN LIVING

Downtown living
End of the night
Shouting orders under glycerin lights
Throw the TV out the window if it feels right
Downtown living
Nothing to see
There is a chasm between you and me
Throw the TV out the window if it feels right
Downtown living
Elvis is on
Singing that one old confederate song
Throw the CD out the window if it feels right
Downtown living
Nowhere to go
Coming down with a broken bone
Throw my passport out the window if it feels right

Downtown living
Walls coming down
But I’ve lived in worse places all over town
And nothing scares me more than when it feels right
Downtown living
Hop in the back
We got a bunch more cases to crack
We got somewhere we can hide until it feels right
