During preparation for a Beatles covers set around Halloween, I became swamped in the lore of the band. As much of a fan as I’d always been, I’d never fixated for that long on the songwriting, the influence, or the parts the way I had in learning what I had to learn. What I came away with was the desire to channel them, or other acts like Girls, the Lemonheads, or Big Star, in an effort to be direct and accessible in talking about love.
